Biography
Alan Laycock
Fight Network Writer
My name is Alan "Milky" Laycock and I'm the regular Smackdown Reporter here on The LAW. A lot of people always ask me about my peculiar nickname but all I can say is that it stems from when I used to be straight-edge like CM Punk. But then I turned heel! I've been watching wrestling since before Triple H started burying people and fondly remember drinking milkshakes with my dad and brother after lunch while we watched WWF on CHCH. (Now it's hard to imagine watching wrestling with the sun still up). My favourite type of wrestling is women's wrestling and technical wrestling, with some of my favourite performers being: Sarah Stock, Gail Kim, Nattie Neidhart, Awesome Kong, Trish Stratus, Bret Hart, Kurt Angle and Harry Smith. As such, Kurt Angle versus Yuji Nagata and Gail Kim versus Awesome Kong are probably two of the best singles matches I've seen all year.
Since you're still reading I assume you want to know a little more about my personal life. Well, I grew up in Toronto but have lived in a variety of places including: St. Catharines, Mississauga, and Thorold (all in Canada), Halle (Germany), and Tromsø (Norway). As you can tell from my picture I am a Toronto FC season ticket holder (eat it!) and that is my friend Liz in the picture next to me (be jealous!). I have taken extensive improv acting courses (culminating in a Second City performance) as well as a variety of writing/journalism courses. (Hopefully both of those influences are recognizable in my writing style!). I have a BA in History with a special interest in Vikings and have been accepted into the University of Reykjavik in Iceland where I hope to do my MA in September.
I have worked a number of odd jobs ranging from being a hockey referee to a fence inspector, and from an archaeologist to a neurofeedback trainer working with kids and adults who have ADD. But one of the highlights of my working career has definitely been to work for The LAW/The Fight Network. What started with simple transcribing of interviews has turned into a weekly job where I actually get paid to write about the 'sport' that I have been so passionate about ever since I first sipped that milkshake in front of the tv with my dad and brother when I was 5 years old.

I'd like to take this opportunity to thank all of my loyal readers for tagging along with me on this incredible journey so far and I hope you all enjoy the new website! I'll see you all online this weekend after Smackdown, or in person at O'Grady's if you're in the Toronto area on Monday nights (I try to show up when I can). Cheers!
