Thirty-six years ago a small cable outfit in New York City was launched, primarily with the objective of being a movie channel. America was then at arguably it's greatest point in history with low crime rates, a still-healthy nuclear family and plenty of boxing was available for free from your trusty antenna. HBO had a seed of an idea to bring good quality fights to their (very small) base of subscribers as a way to gain more market share.

This Saturday evening marks the kick-off for the Super 6 World Boxing Classic in Germany and England. Not only has American broadcaster Showtime committed large amounts of money to the tourney, but has also assured boxing (competitive sports) fans multiple top-shelf matches. Never have so many belt holders/ex-champs or contenders commited to a tourney of this magnitude.
