I am simply blown away by the amount of people that don’t understand the Kimbo Slice marketing ploy, and it is what is. Kimbo is a character out of a comic book, and love him or hate him he’s doing his job. I know there are a number of hardcore fans out there who believe Kimbo is bad for the sport, but I think that people have to open there eyes to see what’s going on! Whether people cheer or jeer him, he’s building momentum for Elite XC and making the world of MMA take notice. I have one question to ask the so called hardcore fans; would you rather see Kimbo take on Ken Shamrock or would you prefer Neil Wain vs Dan Evansen? If you don’t know the names Wain or Evansen, they are UFC heavyweights. I’m pretty sure that when it comes down to the casual viewer, they would prefer to see a match between less talented fighters who happen to have larger than life personalities, over nobodies from the UFC.
Kimbo Slice was simply Elite XC’s trojan horse, and it worked! All you have to do is take a look at the numbers to see that people want to see Kimbo. (Follow the link)

I think Elite XC is doing an excellent job with what they have. Fans should expect to get the best fights or at least entertaining fights because matchmaking is paramount. People have said that I’m a UFC hater and that is simply not true. I just want to see something besides the UFC exist as an option for fighters that may never fight for a title. Just to prove that the UFC isn’t the be all and end all, let’s look at the next couple of events from each promotion and you decide who has the better or more entertaining cards
(On paper)
UFC 89 Elite XC
October 18th November 8th
Main Event Main Event
Michael Bisping vs. Chris Leben Robbie Lawler vs. Joe Villasenor (185 lb title)
Undercard Undercard
Brandon Vera vs. Keith Jardine Nick Diaz vs. Eddie Alvarez (160 lb title)
Thierry Sokoudjou vs. Luis Cane Scott Smith vs. Hector Lombard
Marcus Davis vs. Paul Kelly Brett Rogers vs. Paul Buentello
Chris Lytle vs. Paul Taylor Sarah Kauffman vs. Kaitlin Young
Which card would you spend your money on?
I gotta go with Elite on this one. And you're right about Kimbo. I never got into MMA until I heard the hype about Kimbo and Brock Lesnar. Now I can't get enough. Sure, Kimbo is hardly the most talented guy out there, but I still like watching his fights. I like the entertainment of watching brawlers. But I've also learned to appreciate the great fighters in the sport now that I'm an addict. Now I watch every UFC and Elite event I can. And I watch as much as the other MMA shows as I can. Even if the fights are from years ago, I still watch them because they're new to me.
That's a tough one to pick. But I would have to go with Elite XC on this one. they put together a great card. Wewill definately see at least one fight go to the ground and we get see women fight, which we are not gonna see on this UFC card. On the other hand The UFC has some very interesting fights on their card. Will we see Bisping pick leben apart, or is Leben go into auto pilot like we've seec before and knock Bisping apart. We also have Veras 205 test with Jardine. Jardine is coming off a vicious ko loss to silva , but he hold wins over the greats Liddell, and Griffen. Vera has not looked so good since he returned. He's 1 and 2 since his return and his win wasn't all that impressive so the UFC did give us one of those both fighters gotta win fights.
Elite XC of course
While I would take the EliteXC card over UFC 89, I would take UFC 90 or UFC 91 over that very same EliteXC card. You are comparing one of EliteXC's strongest cards, except their second CBS card against one of the UFC's worse. Gimmie a break man. Compare two strong cards or at least two cards that both offer title fights.
UFC 90
Main Event
Anderson Silva vs. Patrick Cote 185lbs title
Undercard
Thiago Alves vs. Josh Koscheck
Fabricio Werdum vs. Junior dos Santos
Sean Sherk vs. Tyson Griffin
Gray Maynard vs. Rich Clementi
UFC 91
Main Event
Randy Couture vs. Brock Lesnar Heavyweight Title
Undercard
Gabriel Gonzaga vs. Josh Hendrick
Joe Stevenson vs. Ken Florian
Demian Maia vs. Nathan Quarry
Amir Sadollah vs. Nick Cantone
Aside from Nick Diaz vs. Eddie Alvarez, all the other match ups on the EliteXC card are stand and bang affairs, like almost every card EliteXC puts together. I'm more interested in MMA then poor mans boxing. The UFC puts on far more diversified cards then EliteXC does and it is not like EliteXC CAN'T put on good MMA cards with the fighters they have, they CHOOSE not too. Much like they only choose to offer knockout bonuses because "nobody likes fights that go to the ground".
This is nothing against the fighters that EliteXC has, this is the matchmaking and people running the show that is messing the promotion up.
I guess you will always have your MMA fans and whatever EliteXC fans are called.
It's difficult to compare Elite XC and their future events because they haven't been announced.
If you take some of the talent they have and use your imagination you can come up with excellent match up's that can rival the UFC's card given the fact that Elite doesn't run events every month.
E.I
Antonio Silva vs. Ricco Rodriguez (Rematch for the title, if Silva is cleared)
Cyborg Santos vs. Gina Carano ( Women's title match)
Kimbo vs. Ken Shamrock
Nick Thompson vs. Phil Baroni
Justin Eilers vs. Cyrille Diabate
Kala Hose vs. Benji Radach
hey butterbean ur a douchebag
