M-1 Global president Vadim Finkelstein comments on the signing of the contract between UFC and Couture and reflects upon Dana White’s words about Affliction and Fedor Emelianenko.

I believe Randy knows what he’s doing. He’s an awesome athlete, one of the world’s best. I know he got tired of these endless litigations and uncertainty that arose after his resignation. UFC had Randy in the contractual trap so he had to choose an easier solution to the problem.

As for his potential bout with Fedor – all the MMA fans are eager to see this happen. The statements mister White still makes about Fedor alert me. It looks as if White is reluctant to let the best fighter in the world fight the UFC symbol. I’m afraid we’ll stumble upon the bricks of the UFC monopoly and the negotiations will lead nowhere. This fight the fans await might never materialize.

Randy has proved long time ago to be America’s number 1, he’s got nothing more to prove but this contract brings him back to the position where he has again to fight younger athetes in order to earn the right he’s already earned to face the best. Randy is a mature fighter and putting him to the test now and again seems not quite reasonable to me. Everyone wants to see Fedor vs. Randy. Apparently Dana plans to destroy Randy by signing him to three bouts. White believes that Couture won’t pass through the hard trial without loss so that eventually the champion will stay with the UFC. Randy is 45 and he defeated a lot of great adversaries but now he is set to face some upstart athlete who Dana intends to turn into the national star if he pulls the victory against the long-time hero. Fight is fight and anything can happen. All this reminds me of the Pride situation when the organization was bought out with the sole goal of completely destroying it.

I agree randy should be fighting fedor, and it might not be the storybook end for randys career that he and most fans were hoping for, but danas job is to make the ufc money. randy vs brock isnt the fight we wanted, but its still a great fight for the ufc to market.

Randy has constantly been the underdog, and has consistantly won despite it. Aside from Nog, who else could randy fight to headline a UFC show. While I believe Randy will beat Brock handily, I am positive it will set ppv buy records. I also believe Dana is waiting for Affliction to bottom out, and pick up lots of heavyweight talent for cheap, Fedor included.

it's a nice sentiment play. but thats all it is. look i like Couture as much as the next fan, Couture has done more for the sport than most. and no, i don't think Lesner really deserves this match so quick. but thats besides the point. Yes, Couture DOES have to prove himself. stay with me, what do i mean? thats what a champion does every time he defends his belt. No one wins once and stays champion for life. If Lesner comesin there, beats Couture, guess what? Couture's not number 1 anymore is he. thats just the way it works. The champion always puts everything, his belt, his legacy, on the line. and its always up for grabs, every match. listen to GSP's interviews after he lost his belt to Serra, thats pretty much the big thing he says he realized. say what you want about him, White is no more trying to "Destroy Couture" this time than any other time he schedules a fight for Couture. Or is Lesner is guaranteed to destroy Couture, in which case it seems Couture isn't much of a no 1. I'm relieved that at least White and teh UFC tried to put up actual matches instead of trying to be as close to pro wrestling fixed matches as MMA can be like EXC

I think its not so much about destroying Randy. It about selling Brock, fresh blood to leech, not to mention hes already known. No image to build. That's always a bonus in his eyes, little to no work just needs to count the money and be his "friend". If Brock get the belt after his only MMA win ever was Heath... That's a sad, sad day indeed...

dana white reminds me of that black dude on Rocky 5 he's only in it for the money and that dude dont care bout nobody. Randy should have retired gracefullyand all thats going to happen between brock and Coutour is a beating and Coutour is the recieving end of it. Yes it will be a sad day for MMA and dana white will have choreographed it all. Dana's catch phrase should be "time to put some hustle behind that muscle".
