Welterweights Pete Sell and Matt Brown are expected to clash at UFC 96 on March 7 from the Nationwide Arena in Columbus, Ohio.
The news comes courtesy of a report on MMAWeekly.com.
Sell (8-4), a Brazilian jiu-jitsu practitioner under fellow welterweight sensation Matt Serra, has been victorious in only two of six appearances with the Ultimate Fighting Championship. In 2007, he dropped fights to Thales Leites and Nate Quarry. Last year, Sell made the wise decision to move down from middleweight to welterweight. At 170 pounds, Sell rebounded at UFC 90 with a unanimous decision triumph over TUF 7 alum Josh Burkman. The Ring of Combat veteran desperately needs to stay on the winning track to stick around in the stacked UFC 170-pound division.
Brown (8-7), a member of Team Jorge Gurgel under the tutelage of the recently released Strikeforce-bound lightweight, made his UFC debut in June of last year where he defeated Matt Arroyo via TKO in the second frame. He would go on to split his next pair of bouts in the octagon. After a hard-fought split decision loss against Dong Hyun Kim at UFC 88, he bounced back in November at UFC 91 with a second-round submission of Ryan Thomas.
Already confirmed for UFC 96 is a heavyweight match-up between Gabriel Gonzaga and Shane Carwin, a light heavyweight battle pitting Matt Hamill against WEC veteran Mark Munoz, in addition to Dustin Hazelett vs. Ben Saunders, Aaron Riley vs. Shane Nelson, Gray Maynard vs. Jim Miller and Kendall Grove vs. Jason Day.
Sell-Brown isn't exactly something to get excited about. And it would be nice to see Grove actually step up, and fight some real talent for once.
grove faced two veterans and got knocked out twice he is a chump.
