Pavelich Sports Entertainment is pleased to announce that Jason “The Athlete” MacDonald has signed a deal with toy manufacturer Round 5 MMA to create his very own action figure.
MacDonald, a native of Edmonton, Alberta, will now join a very exclusive and elite group of fighters that have all collaborated with Round 5 to produce some of the most detailed and unique MMA action figures in the world.
"Since we are based in Ontario, I am particularly excited that Jason MacDonald is the first Canadian to sign with Round 5," said Damon Lau, Round 5 President and Co-Founder. "He is one of the most successful and popular MMA stars in the country and enjoys a strong following across North America."
Nicknamed “The Athlete,” MacDonald began his career with a series of dominating performances in Canada’s largest MMA organization, the Maximum Fighting Championship. He then burst onto the international stage with an impressive triangle choke victory over Ed Herman at the UFC’s Ultimate Fight Night 7 in October of 2006.
Now sporting a 21-11 record (5-4 in the UFC), MacDonald is set to take on former TUF alumnus and UFC middleweight contender Nate Quarry at UFC 97 in Montreal, Quebec on April 18th.
In a sport where ancillary revenue is important to the financial stability of its athletes, Round 5 is giving fighters like Jason MacDonald a chance to earn money without stepping into the cage. In fact, MacDonald and the rest of the Round 5 roster receive royalty fees for the use of their likenesses that are nearly 4-5 times the toy industry average.
Furthermore, Round 5 also cedes a tremendous amount of creative control to its fighters in order to come up with the best and most unique representation possible. This gives each individual the opportunity to tweak his or her stance, appearance, and even the sponsors that appear on fighting apparel; and from a financial perspective, the ability to select sponsors gives each fighter yet another opportunity to bring in additional income.
Round 5, in a very short period of time, has emerged as an industry leader in this rapidly developing market niche within the toy figurine business – its success deeply rooted in its fighter-friendly approach to business. The company’s debut effort – a collection that featured Randy Couture, Tito Ortiz, Quinton Jackson, and Matt Hughes – was met with much acclaim and paved the way for a successful series two launch in the Fall of 2008.
Now, three additional series are currently being developed: series three set for release this May; and, series four and five (including Jason MacDonald) for sometime later this year.
Round 5 products are available online at www.Round5MMA.com or through retail locations across Canada including, Toys ‘R’ Us, K.B. Toys, FYE, and Champs. Several locations throughout the United States also carry the figurines, although in much more limited quantities.
