Reports have surfaced indicating UFC president Dana White plans to counter Affliction's inaugural pay-per-view broadcast with a live show on Spike TV on Saturday, July 19. Sherdog.com reported the possible UFC event on Monday.
The main event could pit Brazilian slugger Wanderlei Silva against Brandon Vera in a light heavyweight matchup. Vera (8-2) has fallen victim to Fabricio Werdum and Tim Sylvia in his last two fights and has been encouraged by many to drop down to the 205-pound division.
Silva -- who lost three straight to Mirko "Cro Cop" Filipovic, Dan Henderson and Chuck Liddell -- defeated Keith Jardine in impressive fashion at UFC 84: Ill Will in May. This fight would mark Vera's first as a light heavyweight, and it could prove to be one of his toughest tests thus far inside the Octagon.
Another win could put Silva in line for a title shot against a man -- Quinton "Rampage" Jackson -- he has beaten twice. Vera, meanwhile, needs to regain the momentum he once carried in the promotion. A win against Silva would instantly put him in contention in the 205-pound division.
Afflction: Banned will feature a heavyweight showdown between Sylvia and former Pride heavyweight champion Fedor Emelianenko at the Honda Center in Anaheim, Calif. The proposed UFC Fight Night card would likely take place in Las Vegas.
sounds like same old dana try to compete with anybody who dares to try to put out another product that might be good remember the ultimate iceman day on spike that countered elite x c live on cbs. a good fight like this should not be wasted on trying to keep people from watching something else, hes keeping money fron other fighters something he said he doesnt do!
SpikeTV it is! You have to know that the Affliction Brand was a sponsor of many UFC fighters, and is partially owned by Randy "The Natural" . Randy and his affiliates have dropped the ball here, not Dana White. Affliction was launched in the UFC...and now they are capitalising on the success the UFC brand, and it's fighters have have created. Donald Trump is one of the biggest capitalists in North America, and know he wants to benefit from guy's like Tito Ortiz, Andre Arlovski, Randy and so on. These guy's would be nothing but a Sambo fighter, and to wrestling coaches without the marketing the UFC used to make them superstars. Mess with the best, IRS for the rest. Ya feel me?
ladies and gentleman there's more to mma then the ufc.if people would take their time and look that the ufc is like the wwe.they get scared when others come on the scene.dana white is a bully and should get what's comming to him.
the ufc is a brand of mma not mma as dana likes to think.people want to support tna and roh well do the same with mma.
This is a business, Dana is in it to make money just like everybody else. Holding a show the same time as the affliction show, and on cable tv is a brilliant business move.
I'd be more apt to watch the Affliction card, than anything White would put together. Silva's lost three in a row, Vera two, and to make matters worse, Vera habitually comes in looking more soft with every fight. He definately needs to drop down in weight. And regardless of whatever White throws together, nothing negates the fact that fans are just itching to see Fedor fight again. He's always exciting.
Sweet, I'll get the PPV to see Fedor and co, tivo the UFC show and will have like 6 hours of great fights for the price of 3. Thanks Dana
Not a bad move on whites part. MMA fans cant really lose here either. But I do hope Affliction does much better, just to show the UFC that they dont control the MMA world.
The Carps is right, we will have 2 for 1. More fights? Thats what we all want. This aint pro wrestling.. Ya feel me?
Ive been watching the UFC since day one but overall im a huge MMA fan. and i watch them all. I think the fact that Affliction started their own organization scares Dana big time and he should be scared. I wouldn't be suprised to see Afflcition become one of the biggest organization out there if not the biggest in a few years. I for one will be watching Affliction. Im getting tired of Dana being selfish and money hungry. We need more organizations out there because UFC can't take them all. I wish Afflcition all the best in the world, i hope they succeed !
I think anybody in their right mind would be watching the Affliction PPV. They have Fedor Emelianenko..................the best fighter alive. I know which show i'll be watching. I also think Dana White should move over and give someone else a bit of the action. I still love the UFC but they don't have Fedor.
Ya reading this Dana.........Step Up!
