EliteXC’s latest installment of CBS Saturday Night Fights, EliteXC “Heat,” has now come and gone and it’s time for us to hash through what we saw this evening. For the most part I thought the show was very entertaining. It contained striking battles, knockouts, some grappling, a submission, and one hell of a surprise. Let’s break it down, shall we?

Ricardo Almeida has pulled out of UFC 90 due to an “undisclosed injury.” Almeida was set to face off against Matt Horwich in a middleweight matchup on the undercard of the pay-per-view. Now highly touted middleweight prospect and Renzo Gracie student Dan Miller will step in to face Horwich in Almeida’s place.

In an attempt to pull the ripcord on their financial free fall, EliteXC made a deal with the sponsorship-devil and allowed Affliction to again promote their clothing as well as their fighters under the Elite XC banner. Andrei Arlovski vs. Roy Nelson is the first attempt at a joint product, as both fighters are under the Affliction promotional contract. This adds hardcore credibility to a show that was stacked heavily towards mainstream attractiveness.
