ECW Report for Dec 2 - The Streak Continues

Taped Monday in Washington, DC

Swagger cut a promo saying he was undefeated in college (not true) and in ECW. He put over his win over Tommy Dreamer last week and asked Teddy Long to formally name him the number one contender. Long and Tiffany came out. Long didn't name him number one contender and instead Tiffany offered up Ricky Ortiz as another option. I don't like that option. Ortiz came out and made fun of Swagger's lisp. Long made a match between the two.

Ricky Ortiz v. Jack Swagger

Swagger hit a slam off of a waist lock. Ortiz came back with a couple of drop kicks as the match went to break. Returning, Ortiz held Swagger with a headlock. Swagger broke out and took the advantage. Matt Striker pointed out that John Cena lost his first match, but that these guys are undefeated. He didn't mention who Cena lost that match to (Kurt Angle). Nothing happened for a bit until Ortiz came back briefly with a drop kick and flying shoulder block off the middle rope. He went for the big O splash but missed. On the outside, Swagger clotheslined Ortiz. Back inside, Swagger connected with the doctor bomb to win.

The right undefeated wrestler went over here. The announcers, particularly Matt Striker, did a fine job trying to make this match seem important by playing off both men's undefeated stature. But the crowd was dead throughout. That speaks volumes about how little WWE has made wins and losses mean over the past few years. Consider that last night on Raw, WWE had Chris Jericho tell Randy Orton that nobody remembered how he [Orton] beat John Cena at WrestleMania. That's really appalling when you think about it: that WWE would admit that the outcome of its biggest match of the year had no staying power. What's more concerning is that there's plenty of truth in the statement.

Swagger d. Ortiz, Pin, 8:31, *.

Backstage, Tiffany wished that Ortiz had won the match until MVP walked in (and not a moment too soon). Long kept saying how MVP had been a disappointment since he signed him to that big contract. It led to a Matt Hardy-MVP match in the main event.

They aired a promo for Mr. Kennedy's new film Behind Enemy Lines: Colombia. Perhaps because they were in the District of Columbia, WWE spelled Colombia, the country, correctly on the graphic this week.

Finlay came out and called out Mark Henry to finish what they started last week. Henry, on the top of the ramp, complained that Finlay cost him a chance at the ECW championship. He threatened Finlay and Hornswoggle in particular. He challenged the two to a tag match at the pay-per-view against himself and Tony Atlas. Finlay wanted Henry right now but Henry persisted. Hornswoggle wanted the match, so Finlay accepted. This segment was pretty good for what it was. By the way, according to the invaluable historyofwwe.com, Tony Atlas' last WWE match was on September 13, 1991.

They replayed last night's DX promo shilling the elimination chamber toy. The biggest selling point seemed to be that the chamber is difficult to assemble which strikes me as counterproductive. Likewise, counterproductive is airing this segment in juxtaposition to the serious angles Shawn Michaels and Triple H are currently involved with.

DJ Gabriel v. Josh Daniels

We saw more dancing to begin the segment. It strikes me that Gabriel would benefit from some more distinctive entrance music. Gabriel worked some mat work early on. He hit a leg sweep out of the corner and went to the giant swing. Gabriel connected with a double underhook suplex and the European uppercut off of the middle rope for the win.

Gabriel looked pretty good for the second straight week. It will be interesting to see his first match against a pushed wrestler. By the way, Todd Grisham called a spinning back elbow: "something out of mixed martial arts, some kind of kung fu or something."

Gabriel squash, 2:27.

Matt Hardy v. MVP

This match is non-title. The announcers reminded us of the feud these two had several months ago. Grisham also mentioned that MVP's last win was on August 29. Hardy hit a quick side effect for a two count. MVP then took a powder. Hardy followed him out, threw MVP back in and connected with a double-axe handle off of the top rope. After another near fall, Hardy went to a chin lock. MVP slipped out of a twist of fate as the match went to break. Coming back, Hardy hit a clothesline out of the corner. Hardy missed a charge and MVP booted Hardy to the floor. MVP went to a rest hold as the crowd rallied behind the ECW champion. A suplex led to another near fall. MVP went for a cover off of a snap mare and then another cover. He dropped an elbow and went for another cover. Hardy came back with a reverse DDT for a near fall. He hit a legdrop off of the second turnbuckle for a near fall. MVP landed a high kick for another two count. He went for the playmaker but Hardy countered into the side effect. He then landed the twist of fate to extend MVP's losing streak. As Matt Striker said, "just when you think you've got all the answers, Matt Hardy changes the questions." That is a memorable line from a great Roddy Piper promo circa 1984.

This match told an interesting story with MVP constantly going for near falls, even after the most simple of moves. The idea was that MVP was very anxious to end the losing streak. Though the match started slow, it finished strong enough that it continued this show's streak of consecutive weeks with at least one good TV match. Again, the match featured effective commentary with both Striker and Grisham putting over the history between the two men.

Hardy d. MVP, Pin, 13:39, **½.

Well what do you know, my post was deleted for the SEVENTH time in this comment section. I guess this proves that my points are valid and that whomever is pushing the delete button is worried that it might expose Dan Lovranski as the arrogant jerk that he is. For those of you who missed my message, here it is for the SEVENTH time...

On the left side of the front wrestling page of this site there is a new column by Dan Lovranski entitled "Q What has 24 Arms, 24 Legs and 6 Teeth?" with an interesting discussion underneath it. I suggest you all read it to learn just how arrogant Dan really is.

On the October 19tth edition of LAW, now available for download at www.thefightnetwork.com\assets\Downloads\112\101908.mp3, John Pollock confirms that his new Cock Block Pollock segment is up and running and that he finds it exhilarating to converse with total strangers. Listen at 135.50 as the nun-beating fishdildo mentions his newfound friend and WCW original, 'Justin from Atlanta GA'. My dear readers, you too can become a friend and get to know all the gossip about wrestling and MMA... call John Pollock now at 416 486-8754 or leave a message at his voicemail, 416 987-2319 - he's oiled up and will be taking your calls and propositions in this new no-holds barred segment called Cock Block Pollock. Topics of conversations may include everything from 'why haven't you put the show up for download yet?' to 'how many times a week do you and Wai Ting do it?' His preferred time of taking calls is around 2 in the morning, and you can be sure to get all the inside dirt in the world of wrestling and MMA if you call him at this hour. Again, his numbers are 416 486-8754 and 416 987-2319. As a side note, let me assure you that this attention to the Cock Block Pollock segment does not detract from my main objective, which is to get the incompetent Dan Lovranski off the airwaves. I am fully committed to the cause, and I know the hundreds of fellow Lovranski-haters who signed the petition and emailed me are too. Together we are strong.

Bird and Gotthorm - Why do you listen to this show every week if you hate it? You say you want the show to change, but you still listen and you still visit this site regularly. You are proving to the people in charge that you are not turned off by the product.

You reference date and time index's of what things are said when. You go so far as to obtain a written transcript of the show and use quotes from it. I don't know if you are aware of this, but that proves that you hanging on every word. Advertisers like that, because it proves to them that regular listeners are doing so attentively, and hearing their ads.

If you can come up with a rational counterpoint to this, please provide one.

Bird - You can post your spam as many times as you want. Clearly they will not stop deleting it. Good.

Gotthorm - 1 - Name one person that has ever been fired as a result of a petition.
2 - I seriously doubt that is John Pollocks phone number, even if it used to be, though I doubt it. Unless so few people called on your behalf that there was no reason for him to change it. Also, being as you've posted this message a high number of times, if it was his number then this post would always get deleted. Sadly, it never is.

Will either of you address these issues?

On the October 30th edition of LAW, now available for download at thefightnetwork.com\assets\Downloads\119\113008.mp3, Dan "The Mouth" Lovranski orders the online community pay him respect. You won't believe the words that comes out of the queef huffing lamp shitter between 103.09 and 104.14.

Quote - "Well, you know, if if if they wanna come out and say the things they do... overall, I don't have a lot of problem with it, but I ask for a little bit of respect - DON'T come on the board and criticize myself, or John, or Jay, or Wai, and just call us like 'imbeciles''... or 'cocksuckers'... or 'crackheads'... or whatever goofy shit comes out of your mouth! I'm tired of that! I'm just tired of being told I'm a 'janitor', I look like a 'homeless guy', I eat 'cheese logs in my mom's basement'... whatever goofy shit you guy can come up with, I'm tired of it and I don't wanna hear it... and, we're not gonna listen to anything you have to say. Now if you sit down and go 'well, Dan... I think this, and I disagree with this' - give us some solid points, bangzu I love you, 5 stars. But don't get on there and go 'hey guys I think you're a bunch of fucking assholes on crack' alright, 'cause that don't cut it."

Now of course, for those of us who have been subjected to Dan's horrendous hosting of The Law over the years, a statement like this will not stand on its own merits. It's completely ludicrous for Dan to demand respect when you consider his behavior. Furthermore, respect has to be earned - you can't just demand it unless you're very high up in the social hierarchy. Last time I checked Dan Lovranski was still a janitor destroying the legacy of The Law bits by bits every Sunday, all the while dressing like a bum.

So the only other way Dan can earn respect is if he shows remorse for what he has done. Act a bit apologetic, even if you don't mean it. Unfortunately for Dan he's not smart enough to realize that this would be his best course of action. A prime example of this would be his handling of the Austin Aries fiasco. Here he goes and completely alienates yet another wrestler with his Schmoz Interview techniques, to the point where the wrestler afterwards calls him 'an ass' and tells his friends to never go near a certain radio show based in Toronto.

Knowing all this, what does Dan do in response?

He writes a column on this site called "Q What has 24 Arms, 24 Legs and 6 Teeth?" where he basically concludes that the US government didn't investigate pro wrestling after the Benoit murders because the fans are considered 'trailer park trash', 'rednecks', and 'other casualties of society'. In Dan Lovranski's words, the government "won't take it seriously because they think all the fans are just dummies and don't care anyway". It's at times like this you start to wonder if Dan Lovranski really is 10 IQ points short of being retarded.

But back to what I was saying about earning respect by showing remorse... in his column, Dan also comments on the Schmoz Interview he did with Austin Aries by saying "I thought it was terrible, but not because of anything I did". So there you have it - no remorse what so ever... and not a chance in hell of him ever earning respect.

If Dan Lovranski feels he is "above" owning up to and apologizing for his actions, then whether he agrees with it or not he will forever be beneath all contempt.

For reference, the Schmoz Interview with Austin Aries can be found at the following link - tune in at the 25.00 mark thefightnetwork.com\assets\Downloads\112\101908.mp3

This message will probably be deleted shortly, thus confirming my claim that Dan Lovranski feels he is "above" criticism, but rest assured it will be put right back up. In the meantime you can sign my petition to get Dan Lovranski removed from the airwaves at www.petitiononline.com\Mouth\petition.html

With the benefit of a week between shows, the correct course of action would have been to have a dispassionate listen, get some input - even from the comments here, and accept resposibility for a collapsed interview. On the next show, just say - I had as much to do with its not going well as AA, in fact as the show host, I shoulder the blame - and move on. The host gets blanket credit for a good interview - why not a bad one?

Hey Larry - Did that word parser game Promotion Wars tell you that you were Lanny Poffo? Shouldn't you be talking in rhymes? Bwahahahaha

11. Larry from Oakville
December 3, 2008 - 2:58 pm

To post 9 - Why do you ignore the question? If you still listen to the Law, then why would they change the nature of the show? If the critics listen, then why change it? Advertisers are still happy.

Petitions are never effective in getting people fired. You cannot name one person that has successfully been fired via petition. They do not work that way. Especially an online one rife with fake names and no actual signatures.

That's just the way the world works. Sorry.

Well my name is Lanny - I escaped from my nanny - Gonna post a load a shite - On the LAW website - And if you don't agree - Then between you n me - A lil' war they'll be - And all will plainly see - That my IQ's 40 - And yours is three!

Why is this all going on in the first place??? When I read this nonsense from critics of the show, it shows an adolescent attitude and a grudge about a certain person or persons hosting the LAW program. All it does is just make someone who just wants to talk about the topic on hand never want to read the comment board.

14. mark from korea

When I read these inane comments, I think, :

its the LAW generating controversy for the sake of getting a few internet people to talk
( doubtful),;

or

Someone with too much time on their hands ruining what should be a fun discourse among fans!

Either way, it has to stop!

I told you it was going to be Black Monday! Gotthorm, you've exposed Dan for the arrogant jerk that he is.. and for that we salute you! Kudos also to the Battle Cat for touching upon what is really the core of Dan's failure to earn respect... It goes well, you get the credit. It goes bad, you have to accept responsibility. This is the reality for any radio host, except for Dan, who in his infinite wisdom has figured that wrestling fans are so stupid that he can just pull the wool over their eyes and reverse the blame.

18. Larry from Oakville

Bird, Gotthorm - I guess you guys will never get the point, or choose to ignore the irony of what you are doing. Long ago you have stopped bothering to defend what you do because there is no logic or reason or any understanding of business at all in what you say on this forum.

Black Monday? What happened? No one has been "exposed". There was no new information or point of view given. You just hammered the same spam about the petition as you did before. People have even stopped defending you because they see how your actions and words are useless to your goal. They understand that listening every week, and proving that you do in your posts only ensures that TFN will not get rid of the host. It only builds their confidence in him because his critics listen just as much as his fans. So let me ask you another couple of questions - If The Fight Network or Law itself do not replace Dan Lovranski, then what? Will you still listen? When will you be fed up and stop listening? Because until people stop listening and the ratings go down, nothing will change.

To everyone that now seems to understand this point, I congratulate you, and give you the credit you are due personally and intellectually.

You see, rather than just babble and spam, I actually find information. For example - Currently the Law is ranked number 1 in the male demographic on talk radio in the GTA during their time slot. Look it up. Clearly they are doing very well, and there isn't anything wrong with the formula, otherwise they wouldn't be number 1.

Does anybody have a counterpoint to this? Anybody on the forum that can find a hole in my logic here? Are you all a bunch of Hamburger Helpers from post 10? Or can you fight a battle of wits?

In reply to Mark in Korea - how I pitty your location BTW - under comment number 14... so given that you speculate that Dan Lovranski was writing that column to create controversy, does that mean you concur with Gotthorm that he made some ill-advised comments? Because I agree with you... if his intension was to create controversy then it came off magnificently. If Dan meant what he was writing, however, it came off as another huge embarassment for Live Audio Wrestling courtesy of one Dan Lovranski. Tell us your thoughts from Korea... do you really think Dan Lovranski is saying the garbage he did about Benoit and Aries just to create controversy?

DILIEGRO, What the fuck are you talking about saying that it was right to have Jack Swagger win this match. Ricki Ortiz is legitimatley over with the audience and has carisma. Jack Swagger is just another loser who they are trying to shove down our throats and will never get over with the crowd. Any heat he gets will be X-Pac type heat. They basically ruined Ricki Ortiz's momentum in favour of some idiot who doesn't deserve the push he's getting and will get nowhere.
