**To download last night's edition of The LAW you can click here or go to the 'Downloads' section. Last night's show focused on the life and career of the late Billy Red Lyons as well as our coverage of ‘The Bash' pay per view plus Dave Meltzer of the ‘Wrestling Observer Newsletter' and much more.
**The full 75-minute interview that Dan ‘The Mouth' Lovranski conducted with Billy Red Lyons in late 2000 is available in the ‘Downloads' section right now.
**The
WWE has an intense week of TV tapings with the company shooting all of next
week's TV on top of the regular schedule as there is a tour of Australia next
week and there will not be any tapings next week. The ‘Raw' crew is in San Jose, California
where they will tape two weeks worth of ‘Raw'. Tomorrow night the ‘Smackdown'
and ECW tapings take place in Fresno, California and then Wednesday night they
will tape ‘Smackdown' and ECW for next week in Bakersfield, California plus
they will be matches for ‘Superstars' at all of the tapings this week.
**R-Truth defeated Shelton Benjamin in a dark match prior to the pay per view
last night in Sacramento, California.
**Lillian Garcia confirmed on her website over the weekend that she will be leaving the WWE at the end of her contract and is getting married. Garcia started with the company back in September 1999. This is the statement Garcia put on her website:
Hi Everyone,
I hope all of you are doing well! I am writing to address the situation in
which WWE is looking for a Female Ring Announcer/Singer. The truth of the matter is that
they are looking for someone new because I have given them my notice that I
will be leaving at the end of my contract this year. It is with a heavy heart
that I have made this decision because WWE has been my family from day one and
you, the WWE Universe have always been incredible to me. The fact is that I am
getting married later this year and have decided to enter into a new phase of
my life but I will truly miss all of you and the WWE tremendously.
Love you all & keep rockin!
Forever Rockin',

**TNA ‘Impact' did a 1.1 rating on Thursday night.
**WWE ‘Superstars' did a 0.9
rating last Thursday night.
**Gary Hart's autobiography ‘My
Life in Wrestling' comes out today and is available at www.playboygarthart.com. Hart passed
away last year but finished the book prior to his passing. I had a chance to
read this book before it was released and would highly recommend it as Hart
worked in so many significant territories including the Carolina's and of
course in Texas for Fritz Von Erich and sheds a lot of insight into the booking
of each territory he worked for.
**The WWE will be changing the names of both of their October pay per view events. ‘No Mercy' will now be called ‘Hell in a Cell' and ‘Cyber Sunday' will be called ‘Annihilation'.
**Taz posted the following statement on his Facebook account concerning comments made at the ‘Legends of the Arena' event Saturday night in Philadelphia:
Apparently, at the ECW Legends Show promoted by
Francine yours truly was "called out" and knocked that I wouldn't
work the event....an event which I was invited to.
Well 1st and foremost I would like to say that I commend Francine on putting on
an event for such a great charity and I know the charity effects her greatly
personally.
I apologize that I couldn't make the event but I had several reasons why I
couldn't be there which include spending my 90 days in a quality time fashion
with my family!! If that offends anyone I greatly apologize.
Just for the ECW fans who did not attend the event I believe that there were
several other original ECW acts that were not at the event either. I saw the
talent list whom performed on the show and it seemed to be an excellent line up
and I hope a lot of $$ was raised for a great cause.....a cause that my wife
and I have donated $$ to in the past as it has effected our family also.
Honestly speaking, its was charity show and if you wanted to put a guilt trip
on me you did.
**MVP was at the ‘BET Awards' last night alongside Sheri Shepard.
LAW FEEDBACK
Jeremy Motley:
Hey guys,
I'm just listening to the law from last
night. I didn't watch the bash, but you guys defiantly made the point that
smackdown was easily the stronger brand.
Then I had a little realization suddenly,
wasn't this past draft supposed to have made Raw stacked? I remember your show
around that time talking about how Jericho
and Rey going over to Smackdown was the only real big gain for Smackdown and
how Raw got all the bigger names off of Smackdown.
I guess between Batista being perpetually
injured, Kennedy getting canned, Trips coming in and out and never fighting
anyone other than Orton, and Cena getting staler than an month old box of
crackers Smackdown really has emerged as the much stronger brand.
Just a realization I had and thought I'd
share my view on it.
Keep up the great work boys!
David Cimini:
I thought the bash was a good overall ppv with lots of strong
matches. The opening ecw match was good and i liked how they kept the belt on
dreamer, good finish with all the wrestlers scrambling at the end. Jericho and Rey WOW what
a match and match of the night for sure. Great spots and loved the ending with
rey wearing the two masks. Ziggler and kali NEXT!, tag team title match was ok
even though jericho
wasnt even in the match. Womens title boring match i hate Michelle Mccool.
Punk/Hardy was also good and i love the slowing turning punk heel good
work.Cena/Miz match was to short i thought miz could have worked longer with
cena but pretty good match. As for the main event i thought it was a short
match for a 3 stages of hell match i was timing the match and it took them 7
minutes to get two falls WTF LOL as for the finish i hated how ortan got the
win with the stupid legacy interference. Overall though good show!
Dan Langella:
I'm in the same boat as you guys - I grew up watching Maple
Leaf Wrestling and WWF Cavalcade. Hearing Billy Red's voice takes me back to my
childhood. To me, he is the voice of my generation in wrestling (in Ontario anyway) like Bob
Cole is to hockey, or Harry Carey to Cubs fans.
By the way, I haven't watched TNA in months until this past Thursday - what the hell happened to Kurt Angle? He looks awful. I actually thought his promo with Foley was decent, but I didn't even recognize him at first. He looks like a hobo and his giant neck is gone too. Pretty sad. He's one of my all-time favorites.
While on the subject of
TNA, I think I can highlight the problem with that company by looking at what
they hype at the start of the show for what's coming up. Of the 7 things they
promote for the show, 2 of them are matches. The rest is bullshit like "what
will Sting's temperament be?" or "What if Joe and AJ run into each other?". So
f'ing stupid. In 2005, I was going out of my way to find Impact on FSN and
buying every TNA PPV and now I don't even watch the free TV show. Get a fucking
clue.
Brent Chittenden:
Hey guys:
Much like you guys, Billy Red was a big part of my childhood. I can
clearly remember waiting for the start of Maple Leaf wrestling with the strains
of Dire Straits and then to see Billy Red appear and tell me who Macho Man is
taking on that night and that the WWF would be returning to Toronto Maple
Leaf Gardens.
But his passing this week reminded me of the fact how much I miss certain
aspects of the old days.
Those promo's that Billy did were not only entertaining but would be great for
wrestlers to get practice doing promo's.
Imagine if they still did something similar to these promos how many of the
younger guys would benefit. Guys like Cody Rhodes or Ted jr, younger guys
who have the potential to be talkers but never get the chance because they'll
fuck up on RAW and that's it. No more talking for them.
While I agree with you that I would love to see the return of managers, I would
love to see a return of some sort of forum for the younger guys to cut their
teeth doing their own promo work as well.
What do you think?
Stephanie in Winnipeg:
- I don't understand how Vince is all up in arms about Teddy Long's performance
when the GM he should be concerned with is Tiffany. She gives independent
career women a bad name.
- Jericho
versus Mysterio is a match of the year candidate not only due to the work rate
but the crowd being so into it. I never thought I'd appreciate a Mysterio match
again after Eddie's passing but I was wrong. Several times over. HOORAY FOR JERICHO!
- Speaking of Jericho: Hooray for the newly
formed Tag Team Champions: WWE's version in Team Canada! Yes, Edge and Jericho completely 'bury' the tag teams but let's be
honest, who knows a good match like Edge and Jericho these days? Who cares! JUST GIVE ME
MORE TEAM CANADA.
- Michelle McTaker as the first ever Women's & Diva's Champion? Speaking of
a step down for independent women... I loathe that she wins all her matches
with TNA finishers. First it was Daniels' Angel's Wings, then the Styles Clash,
if she breaks out the Muscle Buster or the Coquina Clutch, maybe that
- After Hardy versus Punk, this pay-per-view fell off the map for me. Then
again, the last two matches were RAW matches so I'm not surprised at all.
- Miz getting jobbed out I thought would be the worst part of the night but
then the 3 Stages of Hell happened. It wasn't those two going through hell, it
was all of us. What a horrible match. Where went all the chemistry these two
had? I remember them having chemistry. I guess lost, like anything entertaining
on RAW.
A question: Has Jeff Hardy re-upped his WWE contract?
RIP Billy Red Lyons - I wish I had been watching wrestling when he was around,
he seemed like an incredible man.
Juice Whyteboi:
Overall the show was ok really a 1 match show with Rey vs Jericho which was just fantastic easily a top 3 wwe match of 2009. But the rest of the show was BLAH as Orton vs HHH was just hotshotted in the first 2 falls and the stretcher match was there and its sad that this feud will probably go on all summer. Miz vs Cena was fucking joke RAW a brand which needs some heels badly and they had a chance to make Miz a strong heel but they had Cena go over in 5 min and make Miz look like a bigger douche as he was looking really stupid going into the match with Cena. The triple threat tag was cool as Edge & Jericho should be a amazing team and makes me even more excited to watch smackdown.
Matt Jodouin:
This may be stating the obvious, but the HHH-Orton Feud may
as well go to a hell in a cell match. In fact mark this down, as I believe it's
either going to happen at Night of Champions or or most likely SummerSlam. By
the way, Jay, don't worry, your hatred of miss McShi- i mean McCool is mutual.
Sarah Sweedland:
I
hate Michelle McCool and the fact that she's wearing a belt that took Trish
Stratus and Lita and Victoria to re-build into a worthy championship, and then
had to have Mickie and Melina and Beth re-build it after the WWE ruined it
after putting it on Candice...They just ruined this title again! Michelle
McCool would be nothing if it weren't for her fucking the Undertaker. Michelle
McStool should be fired!!! I'm really pissed off right now, and I knew
this was coming the moment Melina got drafted and then I was 100% sure it was
going to happen when Melina complained and got on the office's bad side.
I almost wished that Mickie James had beat Maryse to win the Diva's title
so that McCool can't' brag that she's the first to be both.
The Women's Championship has a huge history, for starters it's the longest running belt in wrestling history, it has more legacy behind it then any other title. Now it means dick-all!
I've had my peace... I'm angry. So glad I didn't waste my money on that crock of shit!
Thanks... Oh and sorry for the language. I did refrain from using the CU word.
